Rulr Workshop

2015.12.19-20

Introduction

Rhizomatiks Research will be holding a "RULR" workshop , with Elliot Woods as a guest and lecturer. Yuya Hanai from Rhizomatiks, who has participated in a multitude of works using image recognition and image sensing technologies. Throughout the two days, participants will be creating a 3D printer from installation to calibration and finally to a viable product.
Applicants should be programming veterans. It is a workshop aimed at pursuing higher levels of expressions created by erasing the boundaries of video and physical as much as possible.

What is RULR

RULR "is an open source toolkit that enables real-time spatial calibration using devices such as cameras and Kinects. It is intended to be used to create real-time graphics using openFrameworks, VVVV, Processing, etc. and to create an interactive visual experienced by fusing with physical space. For example, it has functions such as reflecting the results of calibration on to the highlights of moving objects and providing the 3D location of the installation visitor's face using a camera.
"RULR" was developed by the art unit "Kimchi & Chips". Works such as their work "Light Barrier" are produced using this tool. In the workshop, the developer Elliot Woods of "Kimchi & Chips" will be the lecturer.
Sample work created with "RULR"
Kimchi&Chips「LIGHT BARRIER 2nd EDITION」[UK/KR]
A sculptural work of light that crosses a myriad of light rays in the air by precisely controlling the projection and reflection of the mirror, causing an image to emerge in the air.

Kimchi and Chips
An Art unit formed by UK media artist Elliott Woods and Korean artist Mimi Son in 2009. It is known for involving people, media and materials, and discovering new interactions more than ever. By developing natural interactions between human, nature, and digital networks, a fusion of the physical world and imagination is created. The art work "LIGHT BARRIER 2nd EDITION" announced in 2014 is acclaimed at art festivals all over the world.
